I read that a pair defends a territory of 1000 to 4000 acres, so they aren't going to park in my yard. 4000 acres drops a pretty big net. I imagine they pretty much live on the west side of the lake and we're just on the winter suet perimeter of their territory.Gunnar Berghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17451985764040900726noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2695748260936745505.post-18862176653594999972011-02-01T09:26:38.138-08:002011-02-01T09:26:38.138-08:00Question -- This summer you described the hardy ho...Question -- This summer you described the hardy homeowners removing all the storm damaged and dead wood from the peninsula. The Forest Service and timber industry do similar projects out here, just on a grander scale. It has the effect of moving woodpecker populations out of the treated areas. Consequently, woodpecker habitat is a scarce and moving commodity in the forest. Did you guys leave enough snags and ugly storm throws to hold and support your pair?Margadantnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2695748260936745505.post-67644663781997037182011-01-31T19:06:46.095-08:002011-01-31T19:06:46.095-08:00George,
