I gotta say, we had
a great meal and great wines. John spent a lot of time studying corks and labels, swirling wine, and scribbling his tiny, tiny notes. Our meal was built around fresh morels collected that afternoon (exciting!), washed down with some nice reds, (
Tempranillo and
Zin) and finished off with Port. We discussed the different types of morels with Jon
Pieper. He had 300 pounds on hand, so we ended up coming home with brown paper bags of morels. We have about a pound, Sal and John have about 5 pounds. Later in the evening Sally recited the lyrics to
When I'm 64. Until then, it didn't dawn on me that 64 was milemarker. God, life just doesn't get better than that.
