... if we are very lucky we are able to live long enough to look back decades. As I approach 75 years tomorrow it has dawned on me that most of the touchstone songwriting poets I have followed are ... dead. Ray Wylie Hubbard is my favorite who still upright and writing, and is a year younger than I am.
Ray is almost intentionally obscure, his recording have all been on obscure labels and he does not fly, doesn't travel much beyond Austin and San Antonio. I get the feeling that he feels commercial success would probably interfere with his lifestyle.
