Dominguez Uber Stem Progress

First of all I want to say what a joy is has been to work with Vincent on this - a great guy, intelligent and a wonderful craftsman. I realize there are a couple of readers who abhor stem-mounted shifters. Fair warning, avert your eyes or suffer.

Coming back from nickel plating this afternoon. More pictures when the bike is being assembled. Eh?

Ja, he did a nice job of capturing the feeling of the frame lugs.

I'm looking forward to seeing it plated. I'm also going to strip and polish the shifter. Living in a shiny world! Vincent Dominguez thinks it should be partially painted. Obviously I'm not sure about that.

so there's a cable housing stop on the stem, right beneath the lever mount, and you'll run a length of housing from there down to . . . to where, I guess maybe a slotted stop on the downtube, and then naked cable from there to the chainstay stop? or will you run housing all the way back? I'm curious what the plan is.

I think it's pretty great work. I imagine you could get a brand new Trek for the price of that stem, but then again you're not really a value shopper, eh?

@mw,
A slotted cylinder stop in the normal shifter boss location, also a normal CKC cable guide about 1 1/2" up the tube. Naked cable, top of BB, to back stop.

I'm not saying it was cheap, but Vincent cut me a nice deal 'cause he likes to play around and it gives us an excuse to talk about non-bikey stuff. Eh?

What kind of stem mount shifters are on your Mooney? (I've wondered for a while, and this gives me a reason to ask!) -Tony

@Tony, Suntours. The originals were the BIG Suntour ratchets, later I replaced them with a later, smaller version, still by Suntour.
