Roll, Coffee, and a Newspaper

This morning. Coffee and butter not shown. This is for Old Fool, who hates pastry as much as I do. And for Margadant who has been known to share rolls with me when he's in town. Life is hard.

Disgusting, especially that gooey one at the bottom. I would, however, show my manners and excellent upbringing by eating them both and pretending to like them.
It would be even more disgusting if there were dark roast coffee and brandy to go with them.

Wow! Those rolls are as big as your head! They do look yumm-o but I'm holding out for Lucia buns and gingersnaps. Soon it'll be time for glogg (this blogger doesn't support the two dots above the letter "o"). Still too warm for that in Maryland, but soon, soon...

The restaurant that makes these has a full time baker on staff. There are also pies that are truly world class.

I understand glogg with or without umlaut. Especially in the Christmas season.

I just noticed the hand, my own, no longer looks lean, hard and graceful, but old, sore and artheretic.

Solution: change your name from Gunnar to something Italian, like Fausto, and wear a nice pair of string-back cycling gloves while consuming the coffee roll; avoid getting icing in the mesh parts of the gloves...

Miss those big, sticky buns! Not the hands ....

No caramel rolls in Oregon?

Currently having my coffee and a bagel the size of a truck tire. I thought of your coffee roll while getting my daily Zippy the Pinhead fix: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/artsandliving/comics/king_zippy_pinhead.html?name=Zippy_the_Pinhead

Glogg always doubled as paint remover along with the akvavit.

My dear Silk: You must live in a perpetually warm climate where imbibers sit around in short sleeve T-shirts and drink things like limoncello. Otherwise you would appreciate the wonderful warming qualities of Glögg, Schnaps (which includes the now lamentably unobtainable, (at least in my part of the US) Gammel Dansk), and Akvavit (which includes many other home and/or professionally favored vodkas). As the days grow short and the nights grow cold such drinks come into their own. I can't imagine the Winter Solstice (my birthday) or Jul without them! Trust me, lutfisk wouldn't be the same without Akvavit. Your attack on Glögg may tip me over the edge and force me to publish my mother-in-law's recipe.

George,
Beneath his veneer of dark heartlessness, Silk is a dyed-in-the- wool Scandinavian Lutheran. The sun and frivolity of Lotusland has made him lose his centering and he has slowly become a backslider.

Poor fella, maybe we should should send a missionary with some Glögg and gingersnaps.

G,
How did you solve the umlaut issue?

Silk Hope said...

Thanks for the support Gunnar. Geo. no back sliding here. Mom was from Stanton IA and Dad from Brock Neb. My wife is full blood Dane and is fluent in Danish. So you can imagin what this Swiss/Swede has to put up with. All those liguids will flowing rather freely this Christmas. So SKOL! I will toasting you guys from the Left Coast. And how did you figure out the umlaut issue?

Cheers,

Mr. Hope

Support?

Silk: In my simplistic, backassward way, I decided rather than to waste the time to figure out how to make blogger insert foreign language symbols it would be easier to open MS Word, create what I needed and then copy/paste it into a blog comment. I'm sure my clever Swedish wife will some day instruct me on how to do things better.

Well, if blogger will recognize the umlaut that way, it'll probably do it a more direct way. Dontcha think? Not that I need little dots over my o's very often anyway.

Silk Hope said...

Well. I figured it out in abøut 60sec.

Skøl!

Did you use the Georgian method?

That looks killer!
Hey Silk, you ever have the cinnamon rolls from the Frontier (across the street from UNM) in Albuquerque? Always a treat...cinnamon roll, while I wait, then NM style huevos rancheros (red), with coffee, fresh squeezed OJ and fresh flour tortillas.
