Who are we? We are our stories. We are our pictures

Rear Window

Broad-tailed Hummingbird (female) preening in a bush (hence the leafy blurs) after feeding at one of our hummingbird feeders - taken through our kitchen window. We tend to think of hummingbirds as living on the wing because that is when we tend to see them. Even if you are a tiny bird, hovering on bird wings, fueling that tiny engine consumes incredible amounts of energy. I have read that 90% of their lives are spent perching, preening, saving this hard-earned energy.

Lorna has some better pictures here.
