Geri McShane

Lorna's friend, Geri died from breast cancer yesterday. The last time I saw her was back in April when she was over here writing a story on Lorna's family surviving breast cancer. Sad time.

I'm sorry to hear this. I lost my first wife to breast cancer. It was both hard but also, one of the most inspirational experiences of my life. People who fight cancer are tough with a capital T, not with a little t like the guys in the tour de france, for instance. Sorry for your loss.

She leaves two daughters, 8 and 14. Tough to lose your mom at that age.

I worked for Geri at the Albert Lea Tribune in the early 90s. She was a great boss, kind and diligent. We caught up via e-mail in recent years. She was happy to move over to lifestyles editor when her good friend retired. I got an e-mail this morning from another Tribune reporter of that era telling me about her death. So sad.

Gunnar and Lorna,
I found your blog entry about Geri just today. I remember her telling me about interviewing Lorna and sisters, but forgot it was just last Spring. Thanks for honoring her.
