Sabal Palms Sanctuary is south of Brownsville, Texas. It's as far south as you can go; it's even situated on the Mexico side of our infamous border wall. It's kind of eerie driving through that gate. It may be a no-man's land, but it's the most beautiful place I have seen in Texas. It is dreadfully dry down here. I would like to see the place in a non-drought year. Frankly, it was a poor birding day, but the temperature was perfect, a splendid day to walk. I took pictures of our dedicated group, and Lorna and Carolee went gaga for butterflies, another of Carolee's passions - she even has a special set of "butterfly binoculars" that focus at close distances.
