Stupid question #19:
At times he's fixed and other times he's freewheeling. Are they switching out bikes or wheels, or is there some kind of on/off mechanism? If not, invent one, and go directly to the bank.

Gunnar:

Most BMX machines are freewheelers. At least that is what it looks like he is riding. The rig he is on looks like it has a singulator on it(keeps the chain tight etc). he could have a flip flop. I think Phil Wood still makes one for a BMXers.

These kind of goofballs are all over Laguna. They usally have some kind of cast on.

I think the back pedaling helps in riding backwards and keeps the tension tight for popping out of going backwards.

Silky,
Sometimes he's actually riding backwards, then in the next shot he'll be freewheeling.

When he is going backwards he is not powering the bike by backpedalling. He is doing this to allow the bike to move backwards due to inertia or gravity.

When you push a freewheeling bike backwards the pedals will move. If you don't let them, the bike will stop.
