CRASH!!!!!!!!

Our computer crashed Friday night. Or maybe it was Saturday morning? It was 7 or 8 years old and the hard drive had never sounded quite right. It always made a slight grinding noise. As this was report card weekend for Lorna, not having a computer for even a day or two was not an option, so after stopping at the Taco King for lunch, we went out and bought a new one. The computer seems to be a hybrid of a desktop, laptop and smart phone. That is, it has a touch screen (which seems pointless on a desktop?), there are no cables except the electrical plug, and the computer itself is integrated into the back of the screen. Whatever, it's fast, has 750 Gb of storage and works just fine. Below is a screen shot of my new home page with Gino Bartali shifting his Cambio Corsa, mostly for The Rev who doesn't think I give Bartali his proper due.  I would like to credit the artist, but unfortunately it is unsigned.

Awesome painting of Gino the Pious. Man this snow cannot melt fast enough.

Yeah, and if you noticed the weather icon behind Gino it doesn't bode well for the next couple of days does it?

My new computer came today at noon (UPS). It took longer to get it out of the box than to get it up and running. Of course I've been tweaking it since. I'll tweak it until it's broke.
The computer is a 7 by 7 by 1 inch that stands on one corner. Sort of looks like a 1920s microphone. I'll probably do a post about it this week.

Fool,
You have me curious. I'll be waiting.

I like the picture, it's an apprpriate "alter" to the fancy technology of the new computer.

Gunnar: What brand and model did you buy? My first generation iMac is now so slow that I have time to drink a beer in between closing email and opening another browzer window. I'm a Mac guy but at work I use windows-based machines so I could go either way.

HP TouchSmart 300-1223

About $850 at Walmart. Not my vendor of choice but we are in a small town and needed it right away.

George, With the new, clean machine the speed is virtually instant and with 750 GB storage is virtually unlimited unless you're storing a lot of video.

Thanks Gunnar, I'll check it out.
