The Solstice

Hip! Hip! Hooray! Hip! Hip! Hooray!
Longer days start today!

Within the fortnight male chickadees will begin declaring their territorial ownership with whistled "phoebe" calls, the females will notice, and the feathered camaraderie of the birdfeeders will begin eroding. Time and love relentlessly steamroller on. It'll be Spring and new eggs before you know it. Hold these thoughts dear to your heart as the bleak Winter darkness slowly but certainly grinds your sorry soul into road salt grit.
You are welcome. (And thanks to Gabriel.)

Nobody ever waxed rhapsodic when I was horny.

Longer days? December 21st sunrise was 7:44am. Albert Lea will have later and later sunrises for a few days and won't see 7:43am sunrise again until the 16th of January.

The sun is in it's lowest point in the sky!

Birds, birds, birds ... your forgot to wax poetic about male toads, Gunnar. We're freezing our butts in the dark and a little more light doesn't help much at all.

May Springtime come to Albert Lea a few hours earlier next year!

Didn't your Mother warn you? You're cold blooded. You're a toad.
When it gets cold: Hibernate, hibernate, hibernate.
When it gets warm: Estivate, estivate, estivate.
When it's just right: Make love.

What? Hibernate? Not in Oregon. We tough it out. Hated the week it got down into the teens at night (and one 8 degree experience).

But I love your last suggestion -- "Make love." That works. Always keeps me warm (among other things). Wonder where my sweetie is hiding? Hope she didn't take your advice and hibernate!
