The Joy of an Untended Yard (Continued)

I hesitate to even call this a lawn. A yard? There are a number of rough yards in Oakwood. Across the bridge to the east is Shoreland Heights - a "better" neighborhood. There is not an untended lawn in all of Shoreland Heights. It is populated by conservative Republicans and buttoned-down Democrats who are proud of their knife edged turf and neat, crisp painted houses. The residents of Oakwood are split between Libertarians and wild-eyed Liberals. There are an awful lot of us that don't give a rat's ass what other people think of our yards. The late Bob Mueschler once remarked that Oakwooders are those people who could afford to live in Shoreland Heights, but wouldn't under any circumstance. I know I wouldn't.

My kink of yard. We mow our weeds when they get too difficult to walk through. I have been known to just mow a path but that drives SWMBO crazy and she is crazy enough already so I don't do that often.

What a gorgeous yard you have! The violets in the shady half of my yard are coming into bloom. I wonder what will bloom in the sunny half: coneflowers? lilies? something the birds and squirrels brought in? I like the element of surprise.
Speaking of tidy Shoreland (love the map), I gave a talk on packinghouse matters today at the Lafayette Club (!). Compared with the ladies in the room, I'm sure my style of dress and coiffure resembled my yard.
Today's Star Tribune says that grass lawns are going out of fashion. How do you like being on the leading edge?

Sorry, that previous comment was from me, not Anonymous. I'm still figuring out how to do this without opening a Google account.
