"I got to thinking of you and your dilemma regarding no car and the beater Colnago. May I offer up a suggestion? You need to get something like this…..
This is my Ragbrai bike. I call it “wash and wear”. It has made it thru tornados, extreme rain, pestilence and famine. The bike is basically Phil Wood visa vi bomb proof. Also I must admit that the best way to break in a Brooks is to ride it in the pouring rain for one solid day and let dry. It rides like a Catchers mit. This one of my favs and is like a trusty ol’ dog."

That stem. That stem definitely puts it in the shi*bike category.
Sorry I had to be so harsh.
Amen Reverend.
A little harsh brothers. Not my choice, but functional.
I have a Merlin very similar to that. Fond of it. It's slightly pimped too . . .
having the balls to ride a stem like that is a good thing.

I'm not certain, but I don't think lack of balls would be an issue with Jack.
Sometimes balls are overrated. That said, I sorta admire anyone who would ride that stem. I never would. Then again, I would never get a tatoo, either.

I have one of the last of the Vandermark Merlins. A 1996 mountain bike. I love it, its my favorite bike. Now I live one block from the Caribbean and the titanium is impervious to corrosion as ever. The steel springs on my V-brakes rust, but the Ti bits are fine.
I also have a Litespeed mtn bike, but its not nearly pretty.
Titanium make me smile!
