No Progress Report

With a couple of Kvale knee operations and miscellaneous interruptions, I am now number two in the queue and on for April. If number one doesn't get his act together I may move up to the one slot, but I don't think I can count on that. I realize that all these sketches may seem redundant, but there are subtle changes that I have recorded for myself and Chris. For instance moving the pump aft of the seat tube, the long round bottom stays, and Vincent Dominguez stem. The plan for the stem is fillet brazed with a bi-laminate fake lug on the top to match the Kvale filed frame lugs, painted to match the frame. I am considering a threaded water-bottle style boss on top of the stem for a camera mount. Taking votes on that one. The Henry James bottom is a little plain, but the combination of round stays and oversized downtube tube limited our options. After Chris gives it a good filing, it'll be elegant enough.

I like the camera mount idea. At one time I had a Modolo stem that had a boss for, I think, a computer. (Although I never saw a computer with a threaded bolt sticking out of the bottom) Somehow I suspect the computer guy dropped the ball on that one, but it was a good idea. -Tony

that is a hell of a project. eh, if only we had bikes like this when we were teenagers, instead of Peugeot UO8's and so forth . . . man, I coulda ridden a million miles.

MW one flaw in that all you could afford was a U08 and that was with your parents money

Ditch the Camera Mounts Neil, and you can never go wrong with Henry James.

I love the C-Record derailleur! Its got that 1930's aero/industrial look and tips the scales at a feathery light 1,826 grams! ;)

yeah well in fact the UO8, like the used Raleigh Grand Prix and the new Motobecane and Stella, was not my parent's money. I made every freaking cent, the slow way, for about everything I bought once I hit puberty

. . . then joined the navy soon after and had a lovely time in the bilges for 4 years.

1826 grams?! You just pull that number of the air?

if I was serious about weight, the 1970s Huret Jubilee rear derailleurs are 140 grams, which is lighter than anything else that I'm aware of.

I have a Jubilee derailleur if anyone really needs one. I have seen the pulleys on the bay recently.

I've never used one. There has to be some serious downsides or the whole world would be using them. Capacity and range? Howsit work?

they worked well, actually, very smooth . . .

but a few years ago I tried to use the one I have and it wasn't so great . . . had problems getting the chain tension right, but also I dont think I had correct pulleys, so there you go.

The Huret Paperclip (I mean Jubilee), is nice, but the one I had could handle no more than a 6 speed freewheel. It simply could not be adjusted to accomodate 7 or more speeds. (And yes, my weight estimate for the C-Record was just a wild guess, but they are pretty heavy. But still nice to look at. Especially the early ones with the stamped logo) -Tony

Mines actually 218 grams. But its a 1984 model with no cut-outs on the cage. -Tony
