In 1990 I quit a corporate job that had me working 80 hour work weeks. I moved to the Twin Cities from Chicago and lived off savings for several years and then worked part time for the next couple of years. I saw live music 4 or 5 nights a week. Mostly blues and blues rock bands. But alternative rock, jazz and classical performances as well. I got to see Malmsteen twice in small smokey clubs. At that time he was billed as the world's fastest guitar player. What I found even more interesting was his musical influences were mostly classical music. When 99.9% of rock guitarist were riffing off a blues pentatonic scale, Malmsteen was soloing with major scales and variations of them. It was mind blowing to watch him perform.

Thanks for reminding me of those days. I'm so glad I got to see him live.
