One of my mother's favorites. Roy Orbison wasn't performing full time by 1988, but for this one they pulled together a pretty high profile back-up group: Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, etc. and a female chorus of k.d. lang, Jennifer Warnes, and Bonnie Raitt. His voice was getting a little thin in the high range by then, but only by Orbison standards.

Thank ya, thank ya. What a treat to see those YOUNG people behind him. I'd forgotten what they all looked like back then. And Orbison's voice was incredible up to the end.

One of my top 5 albums. Done in 1988 for PBS. Called Black and White. I am blanking on the backup groups name with all that talent. It was something like the wayfarers. Every song on the disc is a10 .. Period! Yeah all those clowns... Bruce, Elvis, Tom etc actually had a name. Help me out Gunnar?
TBS. Elvis's band. James Burton - Glen Hardin - Jerry Scheff - Ronnie Tutt. Plus all the new kids - Springsteen, Costello, etc. These were the best musicians of their day, playing for nothing just because it was Orbison. The young people today don't understand what Orbison was to a generation. Or two.
Sorry, TCB band.
hey , gunnar, you mostly like skeezy old rednecks. Roy, on the other hand, was an angel.
best,
mw
You are correct, I much prefer sleazy old rednecks (who write their own songs)to Roy Orbison who had a beautiful instrument. Somehow he slipped through the net - as did Joan Baez whom I really dislike.
I was off a little...
Here is who I was thinking of.
