I was just out riding and came upon the scene of a recent crash where two cyclists, a father and son out riding on a Sunday morning, were run down in the bike lane of our nicest cycling road. The impact must have been very gruesome, throwing both 230 feet. The driver tried to flee the scene. The father was killed outright, the son lived for nearly two days. Anyway, the scene is now the site of a very touching ghost bike memorial which has been decorated by the son's high school friends. I wish I'd had a camera. I will get a photo next time I'm out there.
ps. the impaired driver has been charged with 2nd degree murder. I am somewhat pleased with that.
the crash took place in Mexico a couple of years ago. It is popular on the web these days because people think it's funny. somehow, only one cyclist died, although many were injured.
I lost a coworker, just a little over a year ago to a drunk driver. He was riding with his club on a Sunday morning in California when the car plowed into them. So sad. There but for the grace of God...
How in the world could anyone find humor in a photo like this? There's a lot of extremely shallow, self centered and frankly spoiled people in this country. I can't understand it.
Believe it or not there is a you tube of this. Last year when it happened I almost lost my lunch. I believe they said the Mexican driver was drunk... what a surprise.

this is a terrifying photograph. where did this take place??? please tell me they apprehended the driver.
I received it in an email with a supposedly humorous comment below. I thought it was so horrendous I don't really know how to even comment on it.

You're getting increasingly dour.

A sobering reminder to be careful out there.

As bicycle riders we all feel vulnerable in traffic. Automobiles are heavy, fast and dangerous - we are small and frail.
We are more moved by this picture than any non-cyclist can appreciate.
Silk, You just lost me.
What's not to get Jonny?
Drunk. Mexican.
You know, Ay ay ay, arriba!
Actually, the driver was a drunk American, heading back to the border after a long night.
What a surprise.
